You might decide what your budget is, then start shopping the reputable dealers for used Loree and or Fox oboes. They tend to hold their value and play well. Used instruments have usually already cracked (or not) and you won't have to worry too much about that problem.
If you do a lot of doubling, you may want to consider a plastic top joint to alleviate the cracking issues. One of my students has a lovely Fox oboe with a plastic top joint and grenadilla wood bottom. It has a nice tone, is very stable and has held up well.
Ask your teacher what she recommends - good luck :-)
