Yes, absolutely discuss this with your teacher. And how much do you want to spend? That is a huge determining factor...
For the hobby/amateur oboist, I personaly think the Fox 330 is a great deal. You get everything but the split D and the third octave, and they sound great.
In the all-wood camp, I give a hearty thumbs up to the Fossati Tiery. (then again, I'm also a Fossati freak...) The Fox professional models are also lovely.
As with everything, try out as many as you can and see what speaks to you and will fit in your bank account.
