I suddenly realised that we are getting all too technical and oh well, too detailed into the realm of personal deviations. Stephen is right, practise on the reeds instead! I am taught to circulate between reeds everyday to enchance my ability to compensate bad reeds and to raise my flexibility level, and no, they are not of the same strength always. Try practising for a few days and always do your best to sound light and good, don't think too much! =)

I believe we should judge by sound Susan, perhaps late Arnold Jacob's most useful advise to us oboists. Doing a lot of different things creates a lot of different sounds, and though some are not as pleasing as others, take them as tools of your trade, as long it is not the signature thin and tight sound which is evident with beginners clamping on soft reeds with small openings.
