You're going to hate me ..

Try clipping the tiniest fraction from the tip. The fibres of cane at the extreme tip can get a bit flabby with age [don't we all?], and so respond more heavily. Clipping can restore a fresh edge to the reed.

But you may need to balance the reed afterwards ..
