That has certainly been MY experience, with my own reeds.

Yes, that's why Rachel and I are wanting help in learning how to make reeds for our students. Until, of course, they are at the stage where they can learn to make Their Own.
PS there are now sites selling used reed-making equipment, including pretty good knives at a fraction of the cost. The trouble is, one has to take a little risk. But then again, I just bought a new knife (within my sorry budget) and it's of FAR less quality than the used one I bought. So for students on a budget, it might be an option.
