Nothing will ruin your budgeting like buying things that don't work, or things that work so poorly that you don't use them. Sometimes it's just better to spend the extra two bucks to get things that are proven to work.

That being said, a real money saver: Sharpening your razor blades. I don't believe you would have to buy more than a 10 pack to last forever.

Also, instead of using emery board, use plain old sand paper at a grit you are comfortable with (I think I'm using something like 240). The board is more inhibiting than helpful in my opinion, and you'll get more out of a piece of sand paper, cause you can move to different positions on the paper.
