Robin, I don't think Loree's are made for American scrape reeds, just primarily for the American market. I bet if you go to the finishing area at Loree you will find French scrape reeds being used to finish the oboes. Does anybody on the board know whether that's the case? I myself have played on all kinds of scrapes on my Loree and believe a great reed is a great reed, period. With minor embouchure adjustments, one can play on any good reed.

Howard, Thanks for posting that picture. It occurs to me that the lower wire is more or less where the cane would begin for a reed on a 47mm staple. What's interesting is that the length is about that of an American scrape reed (69-70mm). I assume the reed crows at a C? Perhaps this implies that the wires dampen the length of vibrating cane to about that of an American scrape reed and that the wide flare at the tip also keeps the crow pitch down from what should otherwise tend to be a slightly high crow (given American length / short Euro scrape). Hey, you can't argue with the results, can you? And Mr. Schneeman is a fantastic baroque oboist as well ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0W37IDjpwPg!). If you consider his great versatility, he is certainly one of the world's greatest oboists, imho.
