I was going to pass on this one, because I don't do "short-scrape" reeds, but when I saw it wasn't drawing any attention, I thought I'd try to add something. About 45 years ago, I remember Mr. Still specified 58-60 in the center and 40 at the sides with no discernible spine in the center. I had to reshape the blade in my machine to eliminate that spine. Now, making my first reeds from G/S&F cane, my machine and shaper tip, not to mention my mic, having departed for regions, unknown, I've noticed that it seems that the edge dimension is thicker than it used to be, maybe around 45. Is that true, and if so, does it have anything to do with keeping the reed, a little more open? Hope some more join in. Regards.
