YES, definitely TAKE TIME to learn the instrument and do the repetitive thing; that way you get comfortable with making adjustments. But never never try to adjust an instrument if you are surrounded by distractions, which could make you loose your place in the process. Set the time aside and go slow and orderly; with practice, you'll gain confidence. I'm preaching to myself here...
If you do decide to take it to a pro, perhaps you could 'sit in' on the adjustment and see how it's done. But the 'pros' tend to be more comfortable and can move pretty fast...
