I'm happy if my 'cor' reeds just speak, and they seem to be easier to make for me than oboe reeds, or maybe I just have a knack...

I wouldn't worry too much about 'reading' the crow of a 'cor' reed.
Like someone else said, if they play, that's enough. Also you can't underestimate the effect the bocal has on the sound of an EH.
