Provided the low B isn't coupled to the low C (low B-C link) then you can use this. On some instruments (usually German cors and d'amore) you have the low B-C link.
It's nice of someone like Geoffrey Browne to have taken the time to explain these sort of things to everyone interested. When I met him when he came to the factory he showed me a few of these sort of tricks that aren't common knowledge, but definitely make more sense.
Ditch the fingering charts and make up your own fingerings - as long as what you do makes the note you want, then use it!
