I'll admit...I have left my oboe in the car for 1-3 hrs at a time in the snowy winter as I'm on the road for lessons or whatever. It is not always practical for me to carry everything inside around town. Yes, it's in the trunk, tucked case and all in a grocery 'freezer' bag (helps moderate the temperature swing) the whole thing wrapped in a blanket...I've also experimented with throwing in a couple of the portable hand warmer packets. Yes, it is a wood oboe (Loree). No, it has never cracked from that. I do let it sit inside, case open, for about 20 minutes before I even touch it, and slowly warm it up from there. The only odd thing I have noticed is slightly sluggish rod movement on a couple of keys until it is fully warmed.
I have also left it in a warm-hot car tucked in the freezer bag with a ice pack or two.
