Hi everyone,

It's now 2 months that I have owned my new Marigaux 901. I am up to playing 1 1/2 hours at a time - aiming for 2 1/2 before I play the Oboe on a regular basis.

Some observations:

I needed to change my reed making - all for the better though.

My Marigaux requires a 45 mm staples and larger diameter in the reed opening, and a much simpler scrape!

I am now playing on a more robust reed - yet, working much less. The Marigaux does have more resistance - so at this point - until I further adjust my reeds - My breath capacity is not as great as on the Loree which is freer blowing.

My Loree reeds required a narrower opening and a more exact and complicated scrape - The Loree was very reed sensitive - it would react to each piece of individual cane! Reed making was a chore!

The Marigaux responds consistently to the scrape - less impact on the piece of cane; although, the vibrancy will be affected by the wood.

The Marigaux is an easier instrument to play - the tone/color is quite consistent regardless of the reed and the scale is more stable. The tone projects quite well without much effort..

I am very pleased to have made the transition to the Marigaux from the Loree.

My follow orchestral musicians all have commented on their own initiative on the Marigaux's warm and inviting and full rich tone.
