I totally agree with you.

I plan to keep my Loree for awhile - with the understanding I might have to blend with other Loree Players. I will be playing the Messiah this December - I will use the Loree.

On the other hand, I play first seat in a POPS orchestra - full of beautiful small gems of solo's - the Marigaux is perfect in that scenario as well as for chamber music - woodwind quintet.

I think the Marigaux sound - is much closer to the Baroque oboe tone than the Loree; playing Bach would be quite agreeable.

So - why not have different Oboes for different music or different ensembles?

As for resale value - at my age - I don't really care.

As for those who can't tell the difference among two oboes sounds- or reed styles -

If possible - I would fine someone else to play with!

It is the job of the second oboist to blend with the first chair as well as with the entire ensemble. I find it quite disturbing when other players - whatever their instrument - do not listen to other players in the ensemble and adjust their tone/pitch/style/loudness etc........................
