Yes Mark i have tried closing it to almost way down and also opening it up and trying to half hole amongst other methods, non which has been successful until this very moment. The question now is, to open it up or to seal it further? There is certainly a certain resistance and tiny buzz in the middle D and C#s that i don't like....
Reed-oboe combination, i wonder too sometimes but i have also tried many things to try and resolve that, a million types of staples, shapes, gouges, bla bla...nothing has been working at this moment as well. The good reeds sound good and the bad reeds sound bad, in either case, the top register doesn't work....
