I long ago stopped trying to seal leaky oboe reeds with teflon tape. I could never get it to work. However, I used some to seal an EH reed a year or so ago & am still playing on that reed. Go figure. Forrests in Berkeley sells a length of the plastic tubing for EH staples (tubes) & I've had good success with that. A little less than 10 mm is sufficient. I put it on before I tie the reed. The plastic acts much like the cork of an oboe staple, in that it helps to keep the tie from unravelling. Sometimes just for insurance I'll apply a coating of clear nail enamel. I can see how the teflon applied to the bocal would help to seal the joint where the bocal joins the staple. I'll give it a try. Thanks, Mike.
