I've been playing reed 3 in 'Guys and Dolls' all this week, and there are a lot of cor solos and oboe bits to be played from cold - so whenever I can (and when time allows), I leave the reeds to soak and get them ready to play during the dialogue immediately before I need to play them.
Last night was a bit scary when just before I had to play cor in 'Fugue for Tinhorns', I started to warm up the cor (the first few numbers all segue into each other, so that only gives 5 bars rest to get the cor ready) and the reed came off the crook two bars before I had to play. So make sure the reed is securely fastened on the staple and doesn't come off so you have the reed still in your mouth and then the panic of putting it back on the crook at the wrong angle.
