As John Mack said, "A reed a day keeps the shrink away." We get good at what we do a lot of. He didn't say that; I did. Applies to most things in life, not the least of which is making reeds. It goes with the territory. Speed things along by getting a single bevel jointer blade set, a tool handle to hold same from Ace Hardware (General), the "Neilsen knife" (wedge) from Barbara Neilsen of Chicago & a burnisher from Hartville Tools in Ohio. Then you'll at least have the tools of the trade. There is only one cure for this sickness & that is to fill that laundry basket as soon as possible. Focus, will, determination & perseverance will get you there; then the fun really begins because you will be able to make reeds on demand. I've been slogging away at it for about eleven years & it still takes me about an hour & some minutes to craft one of these beasties cradle to decent crow, but when I'm done, I gotta reed that plays.
