Interesting discussion...I own a Laubin and a Loree. There is no question that the reed that sounds best in one will not necessarily be the reed of choice in the other, although both are basically good playable reeds. You need to adjust your reed making for the instrument. If you are trying out the Laubin, bring along several good reeds and you may be surprised at the big difference in response. I was quite surprised at comments on the mechanical problems on Laubin. I have had superb reliability on both of my Laubins, and a very old one that my daughter owns plays reliably even if left unplayed in the case for a year at a time.
Adjustments should be done by Laubin Co. or someone familiar with the Laubin instruments. Some of the pads are not cork and height adjustments different from regular Lorees that repair people accustomed to.
Thats a whole 'nother story why Laubin chooses to use felt pads over cork in some locations--ask Laubin. I have played some great Lorees also but found in general that many require more frequent adjusting, and certainly the crack rate is very much higher. Lois Barton
