I actually tried two Laubins that I love even though I used reeds made for my Loree. I also tried some Laubins that I don't love. Unfortunately, the ones I loved were not for sale. It just so happens that the Laubins I loved had just recently been overhauled so I'm sure this made a difference. The low notes came out remarkably easily, I didn't have to struggle with the blowing at all. I may have made it sound as if I never tried Laubins before. I do agree about the keywork on the Lorees. I absolutely love the keywork on my Loree Royal. As far as the keywork on Laubins, I do notice that the 2nd oboe in the orchestra I play in seems to have problems all of the time with keys sticking or whatever. It may not necessarily be because it's a Laubin, but it's something I notice all of the time. She also says she sends it for an overhaul about every 3 years. Is that a bit excessive? I never sent my c series Loree in for an overhaul and it seems to work and play just fine. Anyway, I liked the intonation of the Laubins I played better than my Lorees. I don't like the sound of all Laubins, but the two I played that I loved, sounded great and there were't any notes that stuck out or seemed overly bright sounding. A dark sound is fine, I just don't like a dull sound that doesn't project. If I'm used to making reeds for my Lorees then it stands to reason that I will have to make adjustments for other makes of oboes. Yes, each oboe is different, but each company is going to produce oboes with similar qualities. These qualities will be different than the qualities of other oboes made by other manufactures.
