Thanks for the kind words and encouragement. The recital pieces are selected by one of my teacher's colleagues and she was able to obtain a copy of the first one "Auga's Whelm" for me to start working on it. At my next lesson she should have more selections, three to four additional pieces, for me to study and practice.
On the fingering and hand position, she has me doing just what you talked about. You're right, unlearning fingering habits and other aspects of clarinet methodology do present difficulties.
My confidence with my abilities are going to pose the biggest problem. I was never very good with faster tempos, sight reading (drove me crazy) and never made it out of the second clarinet section. But Kathie, my teacher, is sure that I can conquer them and has spent time with me on learning those much needed skills.
I agree with you on the recital opportunity. It is something that I would like to accomplish, but it does give me pause as to whether or not I'll truly be ready to perform, at least, at an acceptable level. But I do not intend to give up and am going to give it the best effort that I can (however, July is getting very close!).
