whew - great advice on this thread. I would just re-iterate that the secret to "fast" is "slow". Play it perfectly, slowly, and only speed up once it is perfect.
As Martin Schuring says on his website - "never play it wrong".

Think about it in these terms. Every time you play your part correctly, you have trained your muscle-memory to play it correctly. Every time you play it wrongly, your muscle-memory has a "wrong" memory to contend with.
Never play it wrong, and your muscles will never know how to play it any other way than just right.

And your age is NOT a factor. Physical ailments associated with age can be factors, but age - of itself - should not prevent you from achieving your goal. It takes longer, that's all. You seem to be progressing fine, so far!
