I had very similar experiences, Bobo. It's always interesting what one finds new to learn. I've been making reeds -- many of them really bad -- since the 1960s. Now, I have a new tool which allows me to make a more consistent reed.
I agree with Howard, I don't like hard reeds. Mine were always hard and exhausted me and tightened me up. I do like a softer reed and realize the quality of my sound has more to do with me, the support I give and the way I play than the reed.
