The benefit of digital micrometers is that most new models nowadays are fitted with hardness testers as well, and through time one will find that extremely useful as well. Walter, my measurements are roughly based on Rothwell's guide to reed making book, and one comes to realise that it can be very variable depending on the gouge thickness and the hardness of the cane. Anyhow:
10 15 10 (tip)
15 20 15 (blend of tip and heart)
20 30 20 (heart)
30 40 30 (lay)
40 50 40 (back)
One notices very quickly that the scrape is actually quite uniform, without a clear spine, and emphasizing on balance and the "blend".
