Chris P is right that those linkages need to be adjusted when using an alternate top joint. But I have found it easy to handle the linkage over the G# key by using a little cork or leather piece, and shaving or filing it to work with the adjustment screw tightness used for the original top joint. Similarly, I have used cork thickness on the likage for the c and b pads to lift, filing or exchanging with thicker cork and then filing the cork where the middle joint and upper joint linkage meet. And, if you are not in a position to have to use the second top joint instantly, then of course you have time to change the adjustment screws related to those two linkages. (I have never found any need to change anything about the adjustment for the trill key linkage, which is the other linkage traversing the two joints.)
