Question: Are Jones reeds the only reeds you've ever used? If so, then before I started spending a lot of time attempting to adjust them yourself, I'd definitely (DEFINITELY) try some other reeds first. Different reeds from different makers work differently for different people.

Some good reedmakers for a beginner, not *too* expensive, are Fox, Edmund Nielsen, Gower, and Goodtoneguild (get her "Rookie" reed). You'll probably need to start with Medium Soft.
