 Re: C# Articulated mechanism?

That's right - the articulated C# key is mounted on it's own set of pillars and is linked to the low B key. The C# pad is lightly sprung to remain open, though it's closure is controlled by an overlever sprung to close it linked to the C# touch.

While holding down the C# key, close and release the low B key and it'll automatically close the C# with it to give an easy slurred or trilled low B-C#.

And low Db-Bb slur/tremolo is done with holding the C# key and closing the low Bb.

On UK, German and some Italian spec oboes they have a low B-C link - this closes the C key along with the low B and Bb so you can play a D-B or D-Bb slur by closing the low B or Bb only without the C key - and frees up the right hand on intervals such as slurring low Bb-Eb or B-D#. The C key doesn't need to be closed by the right hand, but it is at the expense of some of the altissimo notes (I think it's altissimo G# and A) as these need the low B key closed on it's own without the low C key closing along with it. Cors and d'amores don't usually have a low B-C link (though German spec ones do), though it is useful for a low B-D#(or Eb) slur that us otherwise tricky.
