Thanks for the suggestions everyone - I'll keep experimenting, although the sheer number of fingering possibilities up high means I'll probably always be wondering if I've missed something better!
My Fox 333 seems fine for the G# + Eb technique - after all, it's what Fox suggest in their own fingering chart.
WoodwindOz - for an outdoor instrument, I think the plastic Foxes would be great. I got my 333 in as-new condition for £600 (I guess nobody else bid because people in the UK want a dual-system oboe) and there do also seem to be a lot of used ones available from the US. The intonation seems pretty good to me. I've tried a friend's Marigaux which was undoubtedly better (a more covered, even sound and more precise feeling keywork), but those cost about £5000, which is a bit steep for a doubler like me.
If I'd been buying new, I would have gone for the 330, which has the B-C# link I could see that being useful if I ever want to play Tombeau de Couperin... (ha!)
