Jerry
I've just been lucky to procure my very own d'amore from Howarths in London.
It's a 1983 full Gillet instrument and has just had a £500 service - that's 1000 bucks at today's exchange rate!!
Having heard that the d'amore is a tricky customer, I've been pleasantly surprised that with a good reed and a modern crook (bocal) it's a real joy to play. I understand Jennifer Paull's crusade to publicize the instrument.
IMHO, good off-the-shelf reeds are readily available, in UK at least.
Attached is a picture of my d'amore with its relatives, in the interesting triple case in which it was originally supplied in 1983. Needless to say, I don't use that case for transporting the 'family'!!
Enjoy your time with the instrument!!
Cheers
John
