i think it's a very good idea. this allows you to be familiar with many of your reeds at once, so you can select the right one for the piece you're playing and the weather conditions on that day. i also think it lenghtens their lives considerably, especially if you keep them clean by brushing your teeth before playing, rinsing them with water afterwards, and using something like reedlife occasionally to restore their condition. this system has worked extremely well for me. when i get a superawesome reed, i play it less frequently, but i do so occasionally to keep it playable, then i bring it out for performances or group rehearsals when i want to sound my best. i like making reeds, but not enough to want to spend more than half my oboe time on it! (or even close to it)
