... leaving oboe out on a day-to-day basis to ... save time?
... ooh, the gritty and grimy dust particulates that settle, the pet hairs that wander into the moving mechanism, the wood instrument (or in case of plastic) other natural products used on pads that shrink and dry out (especially in summer)
... not to mention the sad li'l, empty li'l, useless li'l oboe case, unable to fulfil its full potential in life as faithful, sturdy protector of the finicky, unpredictable, easily put out of adjustment oboe ... unwanted, unused, rejected ... (jeez, how tear-jerkin' maudlin)
... and the occasional house-fly (or other creepy-crawlies) that land or visit, and leave calling cards INSIDE the bore where there may be an orgy feast of drinkies and munchies to be found ... while you're sleeping all night long, dreamin' of your one-day star performance on oboe ... (euw, gross!)
... yeah, saves time for daily practice
... but the oboe repair mechanic might be charging a bit extra to clean everything, replace shriveled pads, get sticky keys working smoothly again, and it'll take * time * to do all that ... perhaps plus freight charges on top ...
... you do have a second backup oboe while it's away in the shop?
moral of this tale is ... ?!
