Last summer one day I was drinking ginger ale intermittently during practice, it being 90 degrees up in the bedroom, and I began to notice that the spit dribbling out of the oboe bell and onto my bare, shorts-clad thigh, as it normally does, was sticky.

And by inference, all the keys that normally get spitty and wet during practice, like the F resonance key and the octave key, were thus wet with spitty ginger ale.

Ick.

Rinse out mouth well before playing and refrain from food or drink during practice, is my rule now.
