is it typical for the high Bb to sag in comparison to the surrounding notes? I know that part of the second register tends to sag - has there been some improvement to that like in oboes? and do you really need a perfect reed to hit those 3rd register notes without the new octave key? Given the improvements we've been discussing, it's still amazing how well english horns hold their value over the years compared to a new instrument, or to put it the other way, how expensive used ehorns are! I know part of this is the fact that with their bigger bores, ehorns are less susceptible to blowing out, and they probably don't get played as much either.
