The profiler works for me by shaping my tip so I'm just a few strokes away from my finished tip. I will then shape the back myself.
I do all this because I find that I did not like the standard template that I choose. There are people I know who profiles to a nearly completed state and do minor adjustments to the reed.
I would advise you to send in your best reeds (provided they are consistent) so that they can make a template from it.
Personally I find that a profiler saves a lot of time for me and gives me a tip that is consistent!
By the way, I play on an European scrape.
