It may cause more frustration than good, i think.
For bassoonists, it's ideal because of the sheer amount of cane that has to be removed before a squeak can even be made on the darn things...but oboe cane is so thin already it can be easily done with a knife. Also, because the profiler thins out the tip area, it can easily ruin a piece of cane if you're not careful. It's much safer to proceed carefully with a sharp knife. This way, you can ensure evenness, by removing any little bumps that may occur as you thin the tip area. The profiler, unfortunately, can not.
