Actually, I experimented with a tie length today and got one on at round 73 mm without leaking. However, It seems to be very closed and restricted, like I overtied, but I didn't, that's for sure. It may be a fluke, I know my teacher made some reeds with the shape where he tied on at 72-73. They say 71 is recommended for "pitch placement and depth," and I've heard from some well known players that if you tie this shape longer than 71, you can kiss is goodbye. So, I'm really not sure just yet. I'll have to experiment.
