I'm not sure about the sulphur content, but these pads are used on Peter Eaton clarinets which have silver plated keywork.

I've just repadded my Selmer 101 (which is the plastic bodied 104) and the stainless steel springs used aren't brilliant in terms of feel, but as long as your pads are seating, the spring tension can be tweaked to be almost right. But you could always change the springs from stainless steel to blue steel springs. I did this in cork pads right down to the low C# key and white leather for the low B, Bb and the added bell vent.

I have worked on a wooden Selmer (USA) oboe and the top joint bedplaces (where area where the pads seat - the toneholes are in the centre) were less than perfect - so these had to be worked on to make them better before seating pads onto them. The slightest imperfection in the crown of a tonehole bedplace will cause a leak, then multiply this to the amount of toneholes on a top joint that have imperfections and you no longer have an airtight top joint - even if the pads feel like they're seating, they're too firm to fill any imperfections below the level of the bedplace crown (or rim).
