My new Covey has the Philly-key and it seems it puts down the inner ring of the low d key and is adjustable to closed or silghtly open, which was the recommended setting when I called the Covey shop to inquire.
I find it works best adjusted to a 'very slight' opening.
And after studying it a while the Philly key seems to close what the left-hand e-flat key closes, althought that is adjusted to completey close the inner ring.
Venting the low -d.... great idea, I will try that on my old oboe.
