I prefer Covey to anything else I have tried over the years. I always try other makes at every opportunity and there are some very good oboes out there. I have tried a variety of Laubins, a few Marigaux, lots of Lorees and and several Coveys.
I never had the pleasure to try Howarth or Yahama yet.
The reason I like Covey so much is even scale, consistent tone from note to note (even b to c# in the 2nd octave) and I find I can play more expressively on them.
I did also try some recent Lorees and found them to be closer to the Covey than expected. Still, my old Covey won out over a new Loree I had a chance to buy last year.
