What is an Aqua-Nix bowl? Anything that helps the water situation would be great to know about!
It is true about feathers, they are great for getting the "river" going straight to the tone hole broken up; but they are not meant for absorbing.
I use a silk pull through swab, mine does NOT have the little tail on the end to save you in case of getting it stuck (which is a great idea). One of my students figured out if you just put it through the tone hole FIRST (so it goes down the oboe instead of up) that isn't a problem.
It seems silly to mention, but this year I had one new student who'd been playing THREE YEARS and she didn't know that she needed to swab EVERY time she played!!!! I asked her where her swab was (since it was not in her case) and she said it was somewhere at home! This is not good, even if you have a resin instrument. Also, it is good to wash the swab once in a while, and if you use a feather, replace it when it gets gross. It is actually spit on those cleaning items, after all!
