What terrific and timely advice. The oboe is on the carpet, and we have a six year old running around! I had my daughter read the advice.
I'll pass on the Katharine Needleman reeds. The explanation of the reed usage is very helpful. Clarinet playing just seemed a lot less complicated!
I think we may order a couple of the Good Tone reeds.
The oboeist from our church is willing to teach our daughter twice per month, and we'll pay her $20 each time. This whole situation came up so suddenly that Anne still has weekly clarinet lessons through the end of the month, so we'll wait until after Easter to have her take oboe lessons. An alternative to the oboeist from our church, who is not an accredited teacher, is a teacher at a music store, but he charges $22 per half hour and she would have to go every week. Anne already had a lesson with him. Being somewhat shy, she would prefer a woman, and the church oboeist is very nice. The church oboeist also just loves the oboe, so I think she'll encourage Anne in her love of playing. I just have to get from the Band instructor where she'll should be by the start of ninth grade.
I like the idea of an oboe stand. Any suggestions on where to buy them? And thanks much for your help!
