This reminds me of a theory that a colleague of mine came up with about the vibration similarity and weight between short scrape and long scrape reeds.
That being that the amount of cane for a "good" working reed would be about the same ( ie. if you took the reeds off the staple they would weight about the same).
The other way to look at it is the comparion of two examples;
1. A thing shaped long scrape, with a 0.6 or 0.61 gouge that has been tied on at 72mm and cut to 70mm and fully scraped.
VS.
2. A wider shped short scrape, with a 0.56-0.58 gouge that has been tied on at 74-75mm and cut off at 73mm.
The theory is that if you could weigh the cane that there would be a "window" of physical weight that would be on either a shrt or long scrape reed.
