Just to follow Thomas and his comment, (and I hope this is your feeling too Thomas).
When people are saying SLOW practice with the movement from A-C I think you shoudl be thinking about Dead-slow.
Play with a mirror and see how slowly you can do this transition ( also works well for b-C# also), notice things like the moveemnt of the two vent keys ( the Bb and C vent keys between the main keys on teh left hand).
When you slow down the process so you are almost doing glissando you can see which finger is moving "first" and regulate yourself to make a smooth transition between A-C..
Just some thoughts.
