This is the mechanism I must have, since it operates just as you say and the vent has a flat spring.

No, this vent is nice and tight...

That's funny-- the LH 2 doesn't close anything on my EH--- just the key itself.

No- the joint seems to be sealing well; if it leaks, it must be a very small amount since I don't notice it.

There is another vent on the lower joint that is operated by the RH2 and RH3. It appears to be somewhat light, especially when operated by the RH3. I would like to try adjusting it, but there are 4 screws associated with this one stinkin' key and I'm not sure one to try.

I really appreciate your time spent trying to help me out. Although there is no substitute for the qualified technician, I also think that we oboists should learn the basic adjustments on our instruments, since they seem to get out of whack with alarming frequency, over nothing! I have just begun this hard task, since I just got another oboe and can now use my old Loree as a "guinea pig" without being left with an unplayable instrument. So far the results are mixed.

I am using Patrick McFarland's Oboe Adjustment guide. Does anyone have a favorite guide of their own?
