Re: forming the cane back from warped...

I noticed an interesting ad featuring JVC audio speakers where the speaker cones are made from wood. They detail a bit of their 20 years of trial and error experiments to get the wood to form and last without cracking or warping.

Turns out the audio engineer came to a realization while eating squid that had been soaked in saki.

The rice wine had special properties and the wood became pliable and stable after forming and drying when soaked in saki.

I wonder how cane might react to rice wine for soaking? I will try this when I can find some saki for cane prep and gouging and shaping.

Sounds odd, but I went to their web site and read more and enough to get me interesting in trying it. After reading CJWrright's question about the warpage, I think its worth a try.

Perhaps it means soaking and 'clamping' the cane flat to dry before proceeding...something along those lines.

Experiments are fun.
