My son who is a late teen-aged, very good, electric bass player said to me yesterday, "Dad, last night I was listenting to that Stravinski CD you gave me. It is very good, and would make a great rock album if someone would do an arrangement."
He was listening to the Firebird Suite.
I said I agreed and that one of my old favorites, the Mahavishnu Orchestra, had paid it their respects back in the 1970s. (Birds of Fire)
There may still be hope...
He recently heard me composing a new piece and asked questions about it. I told him it was a blues fugue... told him about compositional devices used in the fugue.. and for the first time in 20 years he listened intently and took it in without the usual resistence. SATB... invertible counterpoint... retro grade inversions, etc., he was totally into it.
Now if only I can just convince him about the genius of Mozart...!
