Super glue is our friend! The real thin stuff (from Hobby Lobby with the pink cap) works great!
My EH cracked dramatically in the middle of Nutcracker one year and I had no glue with me. I rubbed some beeswax in the cracks and managed to limp through the second act.
When I called John (Symer) and told him what I had done, he was not too thrilled - actually he said was was the worst possible thing to use since it would take a solvent to remove before it could be glued and pinned.
Now I usually carry glue with me.
