Update: I've just returned from the shop and had a look - it is definitely wood, stamped 'F. [?] Buisson, sole distributer Dallas London', with a serial number 102x. Does that mean anything to anyone? (Thanks for the list Dutchy - I took it with me :-))
I'm presuming the maker is F. Buisson and the distributer is Dallas, London.
The wood is sound but the keywork a little off and seems to be of 'pot metal'. (Although I may test tomorrow with a polishing cloth). The pads look remarkably good, but the cork bits under the keys are shredded in some spots.
Overall, the thought of having a sound wooden instrument is pleasing, having old keywork not so.
thanks again for your interesting observations and stories.
