Sorry for my incorrect content about the vibrato but i have also listened to Tabuteau's Casals festival recordings i.e. Mozart Oboe Quartet. I wouldn't say that is goat beating though. =) I absolutely LOVE De Lancie's playing. Old videos of the Chicago Symphony is also evidence that the oboes sounded more 'ringing' that time as cjwright has described. Very interesting topic and though this is very American i have learned yet more, thankyou cjwright for your valuable information!

Anyone care to elaborate on the European 'old schools'?
