Well, I live in Montreal where the humidity is usually on the high side....the problem for me is oversoaked reeds. I also soak in warm water.
It could very well be that your Santa Ana weather dries your reeds out quite a bit - I was just offering my own experience. It seemed to me like the person who originally asked the question thought that reeds needed hours of soaking...but in reality it's only a short period of time, that can easily be managed at school...regardless of whether it's one, two, or five minutes.
